Hallux valgus explained simply
DEFORMATION OF THE FOOT
Hallux valgus, also known as "bunion", is a tilted position of the big toe in the metatarsophalangeal joint towards the outside. The ball of the big toe often protrudes clearly at the inner edge of the foot. This can lead to painful inflammations caused by the pressure of the footwear. In addition, this pressure of the big toe on the small toes often leads to hammer toes and claw toes, i.e. malpositions of the neighbouring toes. Surgery is considered if the hallux valgus has already progressed and is causing considerable discomfort.

Causes and symptoms
WHERE DOES YOUR PAIN COME FROM AND WHY?
Hallux valgus is often caused by an inherited weakness of the ligaments and connective tissue that affects the entire body. This causes the development of a flat, splay foot. The reduced tension of the ligaments leads to a flattening of the longitudinal arch of the foot, and the transverse arch, which is subjected to a lot of strain during rolling, becomes increasingly wider apart, thus showing the weakness of the ligamentous connections between the metatarsal bones.
